Changing an existing booking

Special Ear Conditions

A case falls under special care when the endoscope view is blocked by earwax, foreign objects or discharge so the eardrum cannot be clearly observed, or when the canal shows visible fungal growth, unusual discharge or flaking. Impaction and ear stones are judged by the practitioner's experience.

Cerumen is earwax; when excessive build-up causes blockage it may affect hearing and canal health — this is cerumen impaction.

Deposits that accumulate and gradually harden over time are called ear stones, which press on and irritate the ear canal.

Ear-canal fungus tends to occur in damp, stuffy conditions or with improper cleaning; typical signs are intense itching, redness, unusual flaking or sticky discharge, sometimes with a blocked feeling or odour. We clean gently and adjust the canal environment according to its condition.

Special care relies on the practitioner's careful handling; we keep the process as gentle and comfortable as possible (complete painlessness cannot be guaranteed, as sensations vary).

Because impaction, ear stones, foreign objects or fungal conditions can leave the canal sensitive or inflamed, the relaxation steps that follow may be adjusted on the day to avoid over-stimulation.
